Abstract 4527
Background
Malnutrition is very common in patients with cancer and is associated with an increase in morbidity and mortality, being directly responsible for death in up to 20% of cases. The presence of nutritional deficits in the initial stages of the tumor can condition tolerability to chemotherapy. The implementation of strategies to detect early malnutrition at all stages of the disease is essential to take measures to avoid their fatal consequences and to improve the quality of life of patients.
Methods
Analysis of the results obtained in the first nursing visit of 410 patients, between July 1, 2017 and May 1, 2018. Creation and completion of a standardized nursing assessment of all patients who come for the first time to a medical oncology consultation that includes: Nutritional status (MST - Malnutrition screening tool) Tumor and patient data BMI body mass index Changes in diet, types of changes ECOG Oncological treatment prescribed (standard or reduced dose).
Results
Patients with ≥2 MST are more likely to: have a higher age than the rest be men have a higher ECOG score have a reduced treatment dose have changed their diets.
Conclusions
The objective of the anaIysis is the identification of factors related to a higher probability of malnutrition in the first visit of nursing.
