Expert report on the management of senior patients with cancer

In this ESMO-SIOG video, Nicolò Battisti underlines the importance of performing Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA), as patients over 65 years old represent half of the cancer patients population.

He explains why a personalised and multidisciplinary approach is necessary in the management of this very heterogeneous population and details CGA tools. He discusses results from 4 geriatric oncology landmark studies presented at ASCO 2020 Annual Meeting in terms of positive impact of CGA intervention on study endpoints.

Abstracts from ASCO 2020 Annual Meeting:

  • 12009: A geriatric assessment (GA) intervention to reduce treatment toxicity in older patients with advanced cancer: A University of Rochester Cancer Center NCI community oncology research program cluster randomized clinical trial (CRCT), by Supriya Gupta Mohile
  • 12010: Geriatric assessment-driven intervention (GAIN) on chemotherapy toxicity in older adults with cancer: A randomized controlled trial, by Daneng Li
