Abstract CN15
Background
Non-adherence to cancer treatment and diminished quality of life (QoL) are significant challenges during chemotherapy. This randomized controlled trial evaluated the efficacy of a mobile application to enhance medication adherence and QoL among cancer patients initiating chemotherapy.
Methods
This open-label RCT recruited 262 cancer patients initiating chemotherapy, randomised 1:1 to a mobile app intervention (n=131) or standard care control (n=131) with a follow-up duration of 6 months. The app incorporated features to improve adherence, such as reminders, diet charts, and symptom tracking. The primary outcome was medication adherence at 3 months, assessed using the Medication Adherence Measure Scale (MAMS). Secondary outcomes included QoL measured by EORTC QLQ-C30. The study data was analysed using SPSS Version 26. Independent sample t-test have been used to compare the mean outcome scores between the intervention and control groups. The Institutional Ethical Committee approved the study, and the trial was registered in CTRI (REF/2023/12/076670).
Results
Groups were balanced at baseline for demographics and QoL scores (p>0.05) but differed in clinical profiles (p
Conclusions
The present study significantly improved medication adherence and multiple QoL domains in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy over 6 months. This scalable digital approach shows promise to enhance treatment outcomes and quality of life among the study population.
