Description

This ESMO Clinical Practice Guidelines Webinar focused on bladder cancer and its application in a real-world case.

Bladder cancer is the 10th most common cancer worldwide, with more than 550,000 new cases and 200,000 deaths annually. Despite advances in diagnosis and treatment, the transition from localised disease to metastatic relapse presents significant challenges in clinical practice.

The European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) has updated its clinical practice guidelines to reflect advancements in the management of localised bladder cancer and strategies for addressing metastatic relapse. Considerations include novel diagnostic techniques, surgical interventions, and systemic therapies, including the introduction of immune checkpoint inhibitors and antibody-drug conjugates, underscoring the importance of personalised treatment plans.

Given the evolving therapeutic landscape and the uncertainties around the optimal use of new therapies, it is essential for healthcare professionals to stay informed about the latest evidence-based recommendations. This webinar focused on the 2024 ESMO guidelines provided a timely platform to disseminate critical information, discuss evolving treatment strategies, patient selection, practical applications, and address challenges in implementing these recommendations, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes in bladder cancer care.

Learning objectives

  • Promote evidence-based quality cancer care by disseminating the ESMO Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) in the oncology community.
  • Present a clinical case for each of the selected topics for discussion in the context of the ESMO CPG recommendations.
  • Present and critically review the ESMO CPG recommendations for each selected cancer type.
  • Discuss the case, the ESMO CPG recommendations, their impact on care and implementability in the daily practice setting under the guidance of a moderator senior expert, with participation of the guideline authors, practicing oncologists and young oncologists.
  • Audit the fulfillment of the learning objectives and acceptability of the ESMO CPG recommendations by means of an online questionnaire.
