Abstract 1840

Background

In 2012, the prevalence of breast cancer in Bali was 45.2% and is projected to increase in the upcoming years. However, the characteristics of breast cancer in Bali are still poorly investigated. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate association some risk factor with the clinicopathological characteristics of breast cancer in Bali.

Methods

A cross-sectional study was conducted by using breast cancer patient register in Sanglah General Hospital from 2012-2016. The analyzed variables were the age at diagnosis, the number of parity, menopausal status, the method of contraception, clinical staging, subtype and Ki-67 expression. All of the data were analyzed in the univariate and bivariate analysis. p-value ≤ 0.05 is considered significant.

Results

125 data with complete variables were enrolled in this study. The mean age at diagnosis was 48.05±9.63 years with mean of parity was 2.23±1.49 children. 52.8% of the samples were in premenopause and 44.8% did not use contraception. Mostly the samples were in advanced stage (stage III & IV; 66.4%), which 17.6% had metastasis. 47.2% of the samples were in grade III. Luminal B is the dominant subtype in our population (51.2%) with 64% of samples had high expression of Ki-67. Bivariate analysis only showed a significant association between age at diagnosis with grading (OR: 0.37; CI95%: 0.145-0.945) and staging with Ki-67 expression (OR: 2.46; CI95%: 1.14-5.30).

Conclusions

Our analysis showed that the breast cancer patient in Bali were mostly in advanced stage and had luminal B subtype with a significant association between age and grade as well as between stage and Ki-67 expression.
