Methods

Clinical data on 1,579 patients operated on for stage III gastric cancer according to the seventh edition between December 2006 and November 2014 were analyzed and the 7th and 8th TNM classifications were compared in terms of prognostic performance.

Results

According to the 8th AJCC TNM classification, the 5-year overall survival rates of IIIA, IIIB and IIIC were 49.4%, 29.6% and 15.2%, respectively (P

Conclusions

The 8th TNM classification provide better accuracy than 7th edition in predicting the prognosis of stage III gastric cancer with LNs harvested≥30.
