Applications in NTRK Gene Fusion Testing

FISH can be useful to confirm NTRK gene fusions when NGS fails or if there is insufficient tissue for NGS. In addition, FISH could be used to identify specific cases (i.e. for high suspicion tumour types in which the tumour has >90% probability of harbouring a rearrangement).

Logistically, commercial probes are available for use in FISH and the faster results available with this technique may be useful if a shorter turnaround time is required.
