DOs and DON’Ts


  • Maintain frequent communication with your doctor and pharmacist
  • Tell your doctor if you notice any side effects that bother you or persists
  • Keep a list of all the medicines and herbal supplements you are taking
  • Inform your doctor and pharmacist when you start taking a new medication
  • Check your pharmacist to see if they have a computerised record of all you current medication
  • Ask your pharmacist to explain how a particular medicine is taken
  • Ask your pharmacist to explain any non-prescription medications, foods or supplements that should be avoided with your cancer drug treatment
  • Follow any instructions given by your pharmacist or doctor to change the way you take a particular medicine (this may be necessary due to prevent potential drug-drug interactions)
  • Read the leaflets given to you by your pharmacist when you receive a new medication. Look closely at the side effects and possible drug interactions.


  • Take matters into your own hands, especially with over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements
