Abstract

Pleural fluid is one of the most important materials for cancer diagnosis. Although cytologic examination has been used as a standard method to diagnose malignant effusion, its sensitivity is still insufficient. To determine whether the genetic analysis of pleural fluid can be used for the diagnosis of malignant effusion, mutations of p53 and FHIT, loss of heterozygosity (LOH), and microsatellite instability (MA) were investigated in malignant pleural effusion.
